What is HIPAA ?
HIPAA refers to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. It sets in law the guidelines and requirements to ensure the privacy and security of patient healthcare information.

HIPAA is the law of the land, and we all have to follow it.

What is a secure FTP site ?
FTP means File Transfer Program. More specifically, it is space on a computer that can be accessed through the Internet using special FTP software. This system allows for files to be transferred faster than if they were attached to standard email.

What is SSL encryption ?
This is a system of preventing hackers from getting any of your patient’s medical information or identification. All file transfers are scrambled (encrypted) so that any non-approved interception of your transcription results in garbage, but you get the real thing.

What is a Business Associate?
HIPAA defines a Business Associate as an individual or corporate “person” that performs on behalf of the covered entity any function or activity involving use or disclosure of protected health information and is not a member of the covered entity’s workforce. In other words, by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, Destiny MT becomes the “business
associate” of your office, the “covered entity,” for the purpose of handling the “protected
health
information” of your patients for medical transcription to be done.
