1. What kind of hardware and software is needed ?
You need a recent computer with normal operating system and word processing software. You also need a system for high-quality digital recording. See also Getting Started for specifics.
2.
What software does Destiny MT provide ?
We provide you with the latest FTP software, which will allow you to upload and download your files to a secure website. We also suggest that you get Open Office to use in place of MS Word.
3.
What is Open Office ?
Open Office is a very high-quality, open source office software that includes MS Word compatible word processing, MS Excel compatible spreadsheets, and MS PowerPoint compatible presentations. Open Office can read these Microsoft files and save them in the same Microsoft format. This is an excellent option for office software when cost is a consideration. Open Office can be used on Windows XP and Linux operating systems. We do not recommend it for Windows 95, 98, ME.
4.
How can I get Open Office ?
Open Office can be downloaded without cost from the Internet. See
http://download.openoffice.org/
5.
Is software installation and setup difficult ?
Installation and setup are not difficult. The instructions we provide are very detailed, which should allow someone who is not highly technical to complete the process. A basic understanding of drag-n-drop use of the mouse will help in using the FTP software, but clients should be able to manage the setup and operation without any technical assistance.
6.
What kind of dictation machine can I use for dictation ?
High-quality transcription begins with good, clear dictation on a high-quality digital recorder. We will attempt to support the recording device you choose, but after a trial period, we may require you to upgrade to a better recorder if the quality of recording is not sufficient. See digital recorder for our recommendations.
7. What about multiple people (physicians, PAs, etc.) using the same recorder ?
The digital recorders such as we have recommended that have removable memory cards can easily be used by multiple people without getting the individual dictations mixed up. If portability is desired, multiple digital recorders are preferred.
8. What kind of digital recorder do you recommend ?
We give a list of digital recorders that we recommend at:
